Style Inspiration

Belmar conjures an atmosphere reminiscent of generations of summer afternoons spent at a family coastal cottage. A distinctively casual environment is conveyed through heirloom like pieces passed down from family to family through the ages. A sense of years of frequent use is translated through a unique weathered antique linen hand painted finish, seemingly worn down over the decades with nicks and rasping, worm-holes, sand thru and constant repainting, layer over layer.  The gesso-like emulsion under the finish creates a layered texture and legacy look complemented by rub-thru edges and slightly scarred planked tops. Several pieces are scaled down in size to fit the confines of a summer cottage or condo.  Flowing movement is conveyed through the serpentine shapes, fluted posts and three-quarter turnings.  Thick stepped crown molding, waist molding and carved dentil molding give an unexpected classic feel to the casual coastal style.

Wood & Finish
Belmar is crafted from radiata solids and New Zealand pine veneers.  The gently weathered antique linen finish with worn-thru edges conveys a collection that is both coastal and casual.  Belmar adapts to a variety of lifestyles.

• The sturdy casual and time-worn appeal of this collection is conveyed through the unique textural aging of the antiqued linen finish --The underlay of emulsion, worn away here and there in layers, implies generations of paint applied over time through several life times.  The linen finish appears to be worn-thru by years of use, with the original wood surface starting to show thru. From the worm holes, rasped edges, watermarks, and flyspecking, each surface appears to have a story to tell.
• The dining table tops are finished in natural wood plank look providing a beautiful compliment to the
  antiqued white linen finish of the rest of the pieces.
• Custom designed carved wood knobs in two sizes feature a painted linen finish with hand sanding to give the
  impression of being painted over and over through the years.
• Planked veneer tops add a hint of cottage influence to each piece, while  carved fluted posts, bulb feet and
  octagonal posts with full turnings translate the profiles into soft casual curves.
• Thick step and crown molding, waist rails and carved dentil molding all provide a casual, easy living feel.
• Full turned octagonal posts, three quarter round fluted pilasters , bulb-shaped feet and serpentine shapes,
  add movement, curves and softness to the collection.
